The comment about antoinette that she said “let them eat cake” it is proved it’s false, she never said such thing, come on!

  2. Marlene says:

It has proven to be false but you obviously want to believe that rumour. Maybe try to read a few more books instead of trusting on wikipedia and the eceonmist.

  3. Juan Pablo says:

I have read a couple of books and this rumor it`s not true, we`ll not be 100% sure she never said that because we weren`t there but historians have proven she was not a frivole persone as the revolutionist said…..

  4. mudblood says:

that rumour is not true!!!!marie antoinette is just another unfortune scapegoat of the revolution..what a poor little girl..

  5. renzo says:

Qu’ils mangent de la brioche (Let them eat cake)! Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France, when told that the poor had no bread.– marie antoinette did not really said this statement… it was said by a spanish Queen that is the wife of Louis 14

  6. Nicole Nasal says:

There is no proof that Marie Antoinette uttered that phrase. In fact the majority of historians believe it was one of many fabricated quotes during the later of her reign as part of a smear campaign to persuade public opinion against the french monarchy. Among many unfortunate misunderstandings, such as “the affair of the necklace”, there were cartoons and publications frequently circulated that portrayed Marie as having little regard for the plight of the poor. Some even depicted her engaging in lude acts. It was determined later to be mere slander and unfortunately led to her being accused of such ridiculous crimes as having sexual relations with her son. I see other comments have been posted prior to mine yet I still feel the need to offer up a more eloquent response.I also hope it may encourage a few of you to inquire about the tragic last years of Marie Antoinette. It’s important that history is recalled as accurately as possible which is why, quotes such as the one you use, however innocent, are just furtherance of innacurate and potentially harmful.

  7. Mary says:

even if all the rumors would be true, just think! She was obligated to marry a man she didn’t know, forced to have a child at a young age and also reign.that sounds to me impossible and even if I can not prove this just thinking it is a possibility that she was mentally disturbed.Whatsoever, she wouldn’t be the only important historical personality who had unusual habits. It is also proved that Cesar was gay and what’s with that? And she was killed because an incest…hmm…that requires religious environment, probably. It sounds to me exactly like the inquisition. It’s the human mind which has strange habits not those poor people.Even though I don’t really appreciate them,I find lesbianism and homosexuality quite natural.Human mind is changed by it’s own attempt to destroy itself, naturalism isn’t seen as important anymore. This is sad…

  8. Umm, i’m really interested in things such as marie antoinette. I do not know what let them eat cake means and i do not know if she said it because i didn’t live in france and i wasn’t alive back then and also i thought she got exacuted for spending toooooo much on the kings money.

  9. Talia says:

    Shay,

-”Let them Eat cake” is not the nice cakes, it’s the nasty dough that used to fall into the ashes of ovens when making bread. No one, even poor, would think of eating cake.
-She did not say it. It’s proven.

    - She spent a lot of money, but so did a lot of Monarchs. Few, if really any of importance around her, told her she has to stop. Also, there were quite a number of rumors of treason and infidelity that led to her unpopularity with the people- Look up “Affair of the Diamond Necklace”.

-She was also Austrian and introduced to the king by his Austrian mistress. The French and Austrians were not on good terms at that time.

  10. halie says:

wait……but if she didnt say it why were her last words “i didnt mean it”! would she still said that. im on maries side i think it was a mental issue beacuse of her marrage and all that but i was unsure

  11. Willem says:

Qu’ils mangent de la brioche (Let them eat cake)! Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France, when told that the poor had no bread:

Marie Antoinette never has said the above. This quote is absolutely untrue!
